Dentures Vs. Implants?

Dentures Vs Dental Implants

What are the the advantages of dental implants over dentures and vice verse? According to Dr DiGiulio, a Bend dentist, "dentures have been an option to replace teeth since the ancient Egyptian era. Our very first president, George Washington, is thought to have worn dentures. They are a tried and true way of allowing an edentulous person the ability to chew food again." And, They are relatively inexpensive and easy to maintain. And if experienced hands make them, they can even look somewhat natural.

Dental implants, however, are superior to dentures both functionally and aesthetically. Implants are anchored into the jaw bone and undergo osteo-integation. This is a process where the jaw bone accepts the metal implant and grows new bone in and around the implant's metal matrix surface. Dr DiGiulio, a Bend family dentist , states that this essentially locks the implant into place. Implants are much more secure than dentures which eliminates the clicking, clacking, and other embarrassing sounds that are associated with dentures. Also, patients have much more self confidence, they no longer worry about they dentures slipping or falling out while eating, speaking, or singing. A well placed implant can last a life time and provide the self confidence and smile you've always wanted. Yes they are more expensive than a bridge or partial denture, but provide superior function, dependability, security, and look like your natural teeth. Another advantage of implants over dentures and bridges is that the later often are attached to neighboring healthy teeth. Bridges and partial dentures are often tethered to adjacent teeth thus weaking them and asking them to not only perform their own duties but to help the affected tooth. Soon, this teeth can also fail adding to the mechanical problems accumulating in one's mouth. This is not a concern with dental implants .
